Project Based Approach
Forum vs. Mailing List vs. Facebook Group
Mailing lists are inaccessible to new users and are largely an outdated form of community. They are more popular in older circles, but are unintuitive to less tech-savvy users. Their functionality is mimicked in our forum subscribe features. DIY Biology already has lots of mailing lists, we are offering an alternative.
Facebook groups are difficult to manage and collate as their size grows larger. In addition they are inaccessible to users who choose not to use facebook.
